FAQ

  1. Is pre-employment testing legal?

Pre-employment testing is legal. There are no laws that prohibit skills assessment testing for pre-employment screening.

  2. Is the MTTest.com exam approved by the EEOC?

Currently the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) does not approve testing materials. Instead, they have established a set of guidelines that all employment tests should meet:

    1. The test must be valid.
    2. The test must be fair.
    3. The test must be job-related.
  3. What if my applicants encounter problems while testing? Will they receive technical support?

Yes, our experienced technical support staff is available six days a week to assist both applicants and company representative with testing issues. ***NOTE*** Because some foot pedals will not work with web-based programs, technical support cannot support all foot pedal issues.

  4. How many questions are on each section of the exam?

Because your test is customizable, you can determine how many questions you would like on your assessment. We recommend the following:

    • Screening Exam 30-50 (Randomly selected)
    • Objective Exam 40-70 (Randomly selected)
    • Transcription Exam 2-5 files (Randomly Selected)
  5. How long will it take for an applicant to complete the testing process?

The length of time it takes for an applicant to complete the assessment exam will vary from applicant to applicant. However, most applicants complete the assessment in 60-90 minutes, depending on the length and difficulty of the transcription files you select for your applicants to transcribe. The amount of time taken to complete the testing is captured for each applicant, and this information is disclosed with the test results.

  6. Will I be able to customize my mttest.com assessments?

Our testing sites are completely customizable to fit your needs.

  7. Are the assessments timed? Will applicants be kicked out of the system after a specific amount of time has passed?

The assessments are timed. However, applicants will not fail an exam because of a timing issue.

  8. If an applicant begins the assessment exam and cannot complete it, will the applicant be able to return to the assessment later? Will the applicant's progress be saved?

Once applicants begin the screening and objective exam they must complete the entire exam. If they exit the exam, they will lose their answers, but the test questions will remain the same.

During the transcription portion of the exam an applicant can stop and start as often as necessary. Our transcription program is designed to automatically save every five minutes.

  9. Can I prevent an applicant from seeing their results?

To protect the integrity of the testing process, no applicant will ever have access to the testing results.

  10. How do I find the results of the mttest.com assessment?

Once an applicant completes the assessment process, an automatic notification will be sent to your email address. You can then find their testing results by logging in to your Admin page.

  11. An applicant has informed me that he/she has completed the assessment process, but I haven't received any email results. What should I do?

You should first check to ensure that you are set up to receive automated notifications. Verify that the email address we have for your account is correct.

If your account is set up to receive an email notification each time a candidate starts an assessment, have you received any notifications for the applicant? If you did not, it is possible that the candidate has not begun the testing process.

You can also search for an applicant by email address, first name or last name. You can also run an "Admin Report" to search the status of the applicant in question.

  12. How can I interpret the results of the assessments? What do the scores mean?

The Screening and Objective exams are automatically graded on a scale of 100%. When compared to a classroom grading scale, 90%-100% would be in the A range, 80%-89% would be in the B range and 70-79% would be in the C range. Most companies set their pass/fail thresholds above 85% but the pass/fail threshold is customizable to fit your needs

  13. How do I determine our initial pass/fail thresholds?

It is recommended that you begin with a pass/fail threshold set between 85%-90%. Once several applicants have completed the testing process, you can then determine whether to raise or lower your pass/fail threshold.

  14. How is the transcription portion of the exam graded?

The applicant 's transcription will be compared with the key and a text-compared document will be provided for review. A recruiter or QA manager for your company will need to review the transcription to determine the actual score by determining what are acceptable differences (minor formatting issues and subjective grammar/punctuation issues, etc.) and what are not acceptable differences (major spelling errors, medication misspellings, etc.) By ignoring everything in black, the recruiter/QA manager will concentrate on the potential errors in red and blue.

  15. What are the minimum computer and browser requirements?

For applicants to successfully use our testing services, they should have the following computer requirements:

    • Windows 98 or newer (Windows XP suggested)
    • Internet Explorer 5.X or newer (6.X suggested)
    • Firefox 1.X.
    • Mac OS X 10.2 or newer (10.3.X or 10.4.X suggested) with Safari or Firefox.
    • Javascript (actionscript in IE) must be enabled.
    • OPTIONAL: Macromedia Flash Player version 6.X or newer.
  16. Can I have my website customized with my company's logo?

Yes, we recommend that you submit one or two logos to have placed on your testing site.

  17. How do I set up testing for my candidates?

You will send applicants to the testing site one of three ways:

    1. Have a link to the testing site from your website
    2. You can provide the URL to your applicants via email
    3. You can provide your applicants the URL over the phone.
  18. Are assessment questions randomized?

Yes, unless you request otherwise, questions on the screening and objective exam are randomly selected for each applicant. Depending on the number of transcription files you provide (or have us find for you) your transcription files can also be randomly selected.

  19. What type of feedback will applicants receive when they are testing?

Applicants will be aware of their status during every step of the testing process. If they fail the exam, they will receive an instantaneous notification page informing them they have failed, detailing the reason for their failure. When an applicant successfully completes any section of the exam, they will receive a "Congratulations, please move forward with the testing process" notification.

  20. I still have questions. What should I do?

If you have a technical question that isn't answered above, you may contact the MTTest.com tech support department via email at techsupport@mttest.com or call 800-347-0395.
